KENDAL

Why Visit Kendal?

The town of Kendal is a beautiful historic town at the southern point of the Lake District. The town itself has many attractions. It is a vibrant market town with plenty of shops and restaurants. There is an arts centre which is also home to the local cinema.

Kendal Castle

Watching over the town is Kendal Castle, originally built in the 1200's for the Baron of Kendal. It fell to ruin in the Tudor period and remained the same ever since.

As well as exploring the ruins, the views over the town and far beyond are truly fabulous which alone make the walk up the hill worthwhile.

Discover more about the castle's history at Kendal Museum, located next door to the County Hotel.

Brewery Arts Centre

Just off the high street you will find the Brewery Arts Centre. The centre puts on theatre shows and music concerts througout the year. There is also a small cinema showing the latest block busters as well as smaller independant films.

As the centre's name suggests it is also home to a free-house bar and restaurant serving tapas and contemporary classic dishes.

Shopping in Kendal

Kendal town centre is a thriving shopping district with a great selection of big name high street stores as well as smaller independent shops and boutiques.

There are two weekly outdoor markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays as well as an indoor market in the Westmorland Shopping Centre. In addition there is a Farmers Market on the last Friday of every month, selling superb local produce.
